Proje Özeti

"Turkey has been the subject of globalization and migration throughout its history. Prevalent languages widely used in the world, such as English, have had their shares in Turkey. Turkey has attracted many immigrants from Middle Eastern and African countries recently as well. Including the fact that Turkey is the hometown to people with divergent ethnolingual backgrounds, it offers one of the most interesting sights for linguists as foreign languages and minority languages are widely used throughout the country. One can observe Turkey’s heterogeneous ethnolingual culture from many perspectives. This article analyses the divergent linguistic culture in Turkey by exploring Turkey’s capital city, Ankara, using the methods of linguistic landscape studies. A total of 1000 sign photographs are collected and given in-depth analysis for the purposes of this study. As researchers, it is our duty to create public awareness of the academy. For this reason, a website is created to share our findings publicly. That way, the public is enlightened and made aware of the signs around them."
