Proje Özeti

"Curriculum materials play a central role in guiding teachers’ practice and pedagogical design capacity, defined as the capacity enabling teachers to engage in the design activities of teaching through two actions: perceiving and mobilizing existing resources (personal and curricular) to craft instructional episodes, is seen as a decisive factor in the development and use of those curriculum material. The present study aims to analyze English language instructors’ orientations towards curriculum material use by examining their pedagogical design capacities. For research purposes, differences in the levels of pedagogical design capacities and curriculum material use of teachers with different years of experience are to be examined. Additionally, the possible factors that inhibit or strengthen instructors’ development of their pedagogical design capacities and use of curriculum materials will also be illustrated. This qualitative research will collect data through oral interviews of instructors with varying years of experience and working at TED University English Language School. Content-analysis will be utilized to analyze the data derived from the interviews. Considering the purpose of the present research, the findings will hopefully deepen the understanding of instructors’ present orientations towards use of curriculum materials, the role of their pedagogical design capacities in their orientations, and the possible factors influencing the use of curriculum materials and the development of pedagogical design capacities. This phenomenological approach towards illustration of the role of pedagogical design capacity in instructors’ use of curriculum materials will eventually help identify strengths and weaknesses of instructors’ knowledge and expertise both in theory and practice, hence will provide guidance to contribute to both pre-service and in-service teacher education programs."
