Proje Özeti

"Children are shaped into who they are as adults starting when they are young. They adopt certain roles and behaviors as part of their socialization process. Children at pre-school age construct their gender schema during this socialization process. Story books, which are one of the most important stimuli that the pre-school age children interacts with, are of great importance in order to gain a healthy sexual identity. The aim of this study is to investigate the gender, gender roles and gender bias in children’s story books which are published in Turkey. To do that, 316 publishers were examined and 1137 story books were selected which are appropriate for pre-school children at the ages of 0-6. Content analysis will be used as a research methodology to systematically provide descriptions and interpretations of how gender, gender roles and gender bias are handled in the early childhood story books. In order to collect reliable and valid data, the “Evaluation Guide for Gender Bias in Textbooks” will be used. Qualitative and quantitative data will be obtained to investigate the gender, gender roles and gender bias in story books for pre-school children."
