2020 - 2021
"In this project, we will develop a novel, die-less and net-shape process. We aim to generate an understanding of process mechanics of an existing manual craft process as a key step towards developing a fully automated, computer-controlled forming process. Through further funding, we aim to ultimately develop a process that will dramatically reduce costs for prototyping and small batch manufacturing and facilitate customization in a range of industries. It will also reduce the environmental impact of the car industry, specifically the emissions related to die manufacturing, material waste and, given the flexible nature of the process, the energy required to operate the process."
