Biography

Dr. Canay Doğulu joined TED University (TEDU) Department of Psychology as an Assistant Professor on 2019 fall semester. She became an Associate Professor of Social Psychology on July 2023 (The National Council of Education) and was appointed to Associate Professorship position at TEDU on December 2023. She acted as the Vice Head of the Department during December 2022 – January 2025, the Accreditation Coordinator of the TEDU Psychology Undergraduate Program during November 2020 – January 2025, and the member of TEDU Programs and Education Commission during December 2020 – January 2024.

Doğulu completed her undergraduate education in 2010 in the Department of Psychology at the Middle East Technical University (METU). She continued her graduate studies in Social Psychology at the same university, obtaining her master's degree in 2012 and her doctorate degree in 2017. Her research mainly focuses on social psychology of disasters (disaster preparedness, community resilience, disaster education, and risk communication) as well as gender (ambivalent sexism, honor cultures). She is particularly interested in applied social psychology topics.

Doğulu has been involved in various national and international research projects on disaster resilience and preparedness and has also worked on earthquake and disaster preparedness studies within the framework of the Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool (DASK) and the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Türkiye. The funding sources of the disaster-related research projects she took part in included The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK), Japan Science and Technology (JST), UK Royal Academy of Engineering, and UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). Furthermore, Doğulu worked as a sector expert on social protection and gender for the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye as part of the assessment of impacts and developing recovery efforts for the February 2023 earthquakes.

Dr. Doğulu has disseminated her research findings in various national and international platforms, and she has published several scientific articles, book chapters, and conference presentations. She is a member of the Turkish Psychological Association (2018 September – ongoing) and Association for Disaster Research (2023 January – ongoing). In addition to her academic work, Doğulu is also interested in arts as she carried out various ceramic works during her undergraduate and graduate education at METU Department of Music and Fine Arts, Ceramis Atelier of Ödül Işıtman.
