Asst. Prof. Ceren Gamze Yaşar

Starting from September’24, I have started working as an Assist. Prof. Dr. in the City and Regional Planning Department of the Faculty of Architecture and Design in TED University.

I am an urban planner recently worked on institutional capacity building and strategic planning with nearly all sub-components needed for infrastructure and environment projects. After the massive earthquake, I have a growing interest on post-disaster reconstruction of cities & rural settlements and the geograhy as a whole. For the last 4 years environmental services and water & waste are specific services that I am gaining experience in and I am predominantly working on capacity building in local governments. I am also working as an expert/researcher in policy analysis, spatial analysis and sectoral analyses in urban, rural and environmental fields. Today, I want to make use of this experience for post-disaster urban policy development and implementation.

In my PhD, I have worked on land use policies, settlement patterns, population flows, local governments, metropolitan municipality system, urban policy, planning of all scales, local government finance, urban form, land development, land rent, planning and land use legislation, planning of all scales (both spatial and strategic) rural policy, agricultural production, agricultural land uses, and the complex relations between urban and rural settlements/spaces.

I find joy in mixing my academic interests and knowledge with the praxis while working in consulting sector as both an expert and a director/manager. Being an urbanist with a holistic approach I am continuously learning new fields with the emerging needs of urban, environment and infrastructure policy and these subjects vary from climate crisis, public expenditures, financing problems, newly emerging financial tools to population flows, environmental and social impacts of policies implemented.

I have 17 years of professional experience and in-depth knowledge working with and/or within government agencies, universities, consultancy bodies, international agencies, private sector and NGOs; including experience in EU, World Bank and AFD financed programs and projects.
