Özet

Philanthropy is love of humanity and a sincere action without anticipating anything in return for oneself and the community. Incontrast, misanthropy is defined as not loving and hating people. The purpose of the current study is to develop a valid andreliable scale to measure in‐service teachers' philanthropic tendencies. First of all, the developed scale was administered to 323in‐service teachers working in 48 different provinces in Türkiye to provide evidence for the validity and reliability. “PrincipalComponent Analysis” was conducted for construct validity and the philanthropic tendency scale ended up with 19 items underthree components. The items explained 70.11% of the total variance. For the reliability of the scale, internal consistency waschecked by the Cronbach α value, which was 0.94 in the current study. Finally, “Confirmatory Factor Analysis” method wasemployed on the data collected from 348 in‐service teachers to make sure the factor structure of the scale obtained via principalcomponent analysis be confirmed. The factor structure of the scale was confirmed at the end of the analysis. According to allfindings, “The Philanthropic Tendency Scale for Teachers (PTST)” is considered to be valid and reliable enough to be used inscientific research.
