Assoc. Prof. Serhat Gül

Serhat Gül received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University in 2010 and 2007, respectively, and his B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Sabancı University in 2006. During his graduate studies, he served as a Research and Teaching Assistant at Arizona State University.

Prior to joining TED University, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Northeastern University from 2010 to 2011 and at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2011 to 2013. He also served as a visiting faculty member in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Sabancı University during 2013–2014 and at the Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts Amherst, during 2023–2024.

To date, he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at TED University, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Northeastern University, Sabancı University, and Yeditepe University. He has also served and continues to serve as a co-supervisor for the theses of Ph.D. and M.S. students in Industrial Engineering at Middle East Technical University and for the theses of M.S. students in Industrial Engineering at Bilkent University, Sabancı University, and Hacettepe University.

Dr. Gül's research focuses on stochastic optimization and its applications to healthcare operations and public health planning. He is the co-author of the book Chemotherapy Appointment Scheduling: Addressing Uncertainty and Fairness, published by Springer. His research has appeared in leading journals, including Production and Operations Management, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Naval Research Logistics, European Journal of Operational Research, Omega, Service Science, Flexible Services and Manufacturing Journal, and Computers & Industrial Engineering. He has served as the principal investigator of research projects funded by TÜBİTAK and the TED University Scientific Research Projects (BAP) program. He is a member of INFORMS and the Operations Research Society of Türkiye (YAD).
