Abstract

© 2014 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.This paper presents an examination of the elastic-plastic interference fit joints for simple and complex pin-tube geometries. Mechanics of the process is studied in detail through physical trials and numerical models. Results show there are three distinct stages as the pin is pushed into the tube and that an optimum geometry maximising the joint strength exists.
