Özet

The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore the wide range of caregiving strategies used to navigate and lessen the effects of adverse life experiences on children. Adverse life experiences, which include things like trauma, loss, and major life changes, can have a big impact on a child's resilience and emotional health and on later adulthood. It is essential to comprehend how caregivers interact with their children in these challenging circumstances in order to develop support networks and intervention strategies. Caregiving skills such as providing emotional support and security, buffering the impact of adversity, facilitating the development of coping strategies play a pivotal role in influencing children's emotional well-being, adaptive responses to adverse life experiences and preventing the cycle of intergenerational trauma as well. The study adopts a phenomenological approach, utilizing in-depth interviews with ten caregivers having adverse life experiences as a family in the last six months to explore the nuances of their practices. Through thematic analysis recurring patterns, coping strategies, and relational dynamics that contribute to or hinder the development of resilience in children were examined. The research also explores the influence of cultural, socioeconomic, and contextual factors on caregiving approaches. Preliminary findings suggest that caregivers have a lack of employing co-regulation skills for negative emotions of their children and providing support in terms of meaning making. This inquiry into caregiving practices amid adversity holds implications for interventions, policy, and cultural competence. Findings can inform tailored support programs, fostering resilience in familial dynamics. Contributing to policy development, the study addresses systemic determinants influencing caregiving in adverse conditions. Implications include culturally nuanced interventions and the promotion of trauma-informed care principles. Recognizing caregivers’ strengths is pivotal for empowerment and positive outcomes. The study advocates for interdisciplinary collaboration, envisioning comprehensive support frameworks for families facing adversity.
