This chapter discusses selecting,
evaluating, and developing blended, flipped, and online learning materials for
English language teaching. First, the chapter briefly touches upon the critical
role of materials for language teaching; it clarifies the concepts of online,
blended, and flipped learning, suggests strategies, and then reviews sample
apps and tools that cater to material production.
The role of materials in English
language teaching is crucial for providing learners with the necessary tools
and resources to acquire and develop their language skills effectively.
Materials bridge the theoretical aspects of language learning and the practical
application of language in real-life contexts. They help to engage and motivate
learners, provide opportunities for practice and feedback, facilitate the
development of language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing,
and help teachers plan and conduct their lessons. Materials can also support a
cohesive and structured learning environment, providing a framework for
instruction and guiding learners through the language learning process. They
can serve as a reference point for teachers and learners by providing
information on language rules, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.
