Özet

We explored the roles of benevolent and hostile sexism on women’s partner ideals (i.e., status, attractiveness, trustworthiness) with the mediation of vicarious manhood threat perception. We tested three mediation models with 153 heterosexual women from Turkey. We developed a vicarious manhood threat perception scale with three dimensions: subordination to women, protector, and breadwinner role. Both benevolent and hostile sexism indirectly predicted status ideals through vicarious threats perceived from men’s subordination to women. Benevolent sexism also predicted status indirectly through a threat to men’s breadwinner role. Vicarious threat on men’s protector and breadwinner role has no significant indirect role on attractiveness and trustworthiness.
