Özet

Older women represent the disadvantaged side of digital inequality as an extension of social, economic, and cultural inequalities. This research aims to explore the Digital Competence Training Program (DCTP) designed as a model to overcome the lack of digital capital among older women. There are three focal points of working towards this goal, which are identifying the program’s necessitating dynamics, assessing its impact on older women’s digital participation and indirect effects on their lives, and comprehending the areas to be improved to combat digital inequality. This study utilized a qualitative case design. Grounded in Ragnedda and Ruiu’s concept of digital capital, the findings were derived from in-depth interviews with the program’s director. The results showed that the need for the DCTP was primarily based on the correlation between the widespread lack of digital capital among older women and their lower economic and cultural capital. It was indicated that access to digital capital and participation in digital realms substantially enhanced these women’s self-esteem and social status. This study also highlights the need for broad stakeholder participation and resource allocation to implement the DCTP effectively. Future research phases will involve interviews with other stakeholders, including the local government representative, instructors, and learners.
