Biography
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Başak Ağın received her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Hacettepe University, Department of English Language and Literature, the latter two being in British Cultural Studies. She was awarded the title of Associate Professor in Philology, World Languages and Literatures, English Language and Literature by Interuniversity Council of Turkey in 2021.She worked at the Turkish Land Forces Command as an interpreter (2003-2006), Ankara University, TÖMER as an English instructor (2006-2008), and METU, School of Foreign Languages as a lecturer (2008-2021). During her time at Ankara University, TÖMER, she took part as a teacher trainer in LANCELOT (Language Certified Live Online Teachers), a co-conducted online teaching project by Ankara, Manchester, and Vienna Universities. She also taught translation and speech studies in foreign language courses at DTCF Department of Linguistics. Aside from her main duties at METU, School of Foreign Languages, she taught modern fiction and introduction to English literature courses at METU, Department of Foreign Language Teaching.
She published a monograph Posthümanizm: Kavram, Kuram, Bilim-Kurgu (2020) and authored various articles in national and international journals. She has recently edited the Turkish translation of The Ecophobia Hypothesis (2018), which came out as Ekofobi Hipotezi (2021), and co-edited a volume titled Posthuman Pathogenesis: Contagion in Literature, Arts, and Media (2023). Currently, she is editing a Turkish volume on posthumanities. Her research interests include posthumanist and new materialist theories, ecofeminism, ecomedia, contemporary British and American novel, and cultural studies.
She joined TED University, Department of English Language and Literature as of 2021-22 Fall Semester.
