Biography
Prof. Dr. Başak Ağın received her B.A. in the Department of English Language and Literature and her M.A. and Ph.D. in the English Cultural Studies Program, both at Hacettepe University. In 2021, she was awarded the title of Associate Professor by the Interuniversity Council (ÜAK) in the field of Basic Philology, World Languages and Literatures, English Language and Literature. As of 27 July 2026, she has been appointed as Professor.
Between 2003 and 2006, she worked as a translator at the Turkish Land Forces Command. From 2006 to 2008, she served as an English instructor at Ankara University TÖMER, and between 2008 and 2021, she was a lecturer at the School of Foreign Languages at Middle East Technical University (METU). In 2007, she participated as a teacher trainer in the LANCELOT (Language Certified Live Online Teachers) project, an international online language teaching initiative jointly conducted by Ankara University, the University of Manchester, and the University of Vienna. During her tenure at Ankara University TÖMER, she taught courses in translation and foreign-language diction in the Department of Linguistics at the Faculty of Languages, History and Geography. At METU, she also taught courses such as Modern Fiction and Introduction to English Literature in the Department of Foreign Language Education. She currently serves as the Principal Investigator of a nationally funded TÜBİTAK research project and as a researcher in an international Interreg NEXT MED project.
Prof. Ağın is the author of Posthümanizm: Kavram, Kuram, Bilim-Kurgu (Posthumanism: Concept, Theory, and Science Fiction, 2020), which received the IDEA Book Award in 2022, and has published numerous articles in national and international academic journals. She also served as the translation editor of Ekofobi Hipotezi (The Ecophobia Hypothesis, 2021) and as co-editor of the two-volume series Beşeri Bilimlerin 50 Rengi (50 Shades of the Humanities, 2023, 2025), as well as the edited collection Posthuman Pathogenesis: Contagion in Literature, Arts, and Media (2023). Her research interests include posthumanist and new materialist theories, ecofeminism, ecomedia, contemporary British and American fiction, and cultural studies.
Since the Fall semester of the 2021–2022 academic year, she has been a faculty member in the Department of English Language and Literature at TED University.
