Lect. PhD Emine Şimşek

Emine Simsek completed her undergraduate degree in Primary Mathematics Education at Gazi University in 2010, her master’s degree in Mathematics Education at the Institute of Education, University College London (UCL), in 2016, and her PhD at the Mathematics Education Centre, Loughborough University, UK, in 2020. In 2021–2022, she was awarded a highly competitive postdoctoral fellowship funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC, UK Research and Innovation) and worked as an independent researcher at Loughborough University. She has held research positions in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Türkiye, including at Abant İzzet Baysal University and Hacettepe University.

In 2023–2024, she was a Research Associate in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri, collaborating with Professor David C. Geary on a longitudinal project examining cognitive and environmental predictors of early childhood mathematics achievement. She has served as Principal Investigator on an international research project funded jointly by TÜBİTAK and the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARRS) (2023–2025). Her research focuses on mathematical equivalence, early mathematical development, parent–child number talk, problem solving, and the use of technology in mathematics education, with publications in leading international journals such as Nature Communications and Journal of Educational Psychology.
