Biography

Yağmur Ar-Karcı graduated from METU Psychology Department with a bachelor degree in 2010 as the top scoring student of the department, and received her Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology Post-Bachelor Doctoral Program at the same university in 2017.

Starting to work as a research assistant at Psychology Department of METU in 2011, she provided teaching assistance to various under-graduate and graduate courses of clinical psychology, psychopathology and research methods. Besides, she performed lab sessions of these courses which were closely related with clinical and research applications. During her graduate training, Yağmur Ar-Karcı provided psychotherapy to many patients over 1000 sessions in AYNA Clinical Psychology Unit at METU, and gave CBT, Schema Therapy and Psychoanalytic oriented clinical supervision to graduate students.

Her main research interests focus on psycho-social factors affecting well-being of chronically ill patients and their families, ambiguous loss in the context of chronic illnesses, impacts of suicidal loss on surviving family members, growth and resilience among caregivers of chronically ill patients, cultural factors in psychotherapy and factors affecting therapeutic relationship. Having been ranked as the 1st in the “Young Psychologists’ Research Competition” coordinated by Turkish Psychological Association in 2012, she was also awarded with the "Year of the Thesis" by METU Prof. Mustafa Parlar Education and Research Foundation. Yağmur Ar-Karcı has various international and national scientific publications. Besides, she took part in national and international projects as a researcher about psychological resilience after earthquakes and traditional healing methods; and had a chance to share her research findings in various national and international conferences.

She is still an editorial board member of AYNA Clinical Psychology Journal which had been started to be published in October 2014.
